Don’t Let Missing Mud Flaps Keep Your Trailers Off the Road

If you’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it hundreds of times. Another trailer parked at the terminal with missing mud flaps. It might have been a rookie driver or maybe a driver who wasn’t paying attention. As a maintenance manager, you’ve probably heard every excuse in the book on why they’re missing.

Ever have that problem?

The BettsHD Trailer Mud Flap Retention System (TMF-RS) is a solution to that very well known problem.

The Problem with Mud Flaps

Trailer mud flaps are typically mounted rigidly onto trailers. When they come into situations such as backing into a loading dock, running on uneven ground or sometimes even just running through a simple paved yard, the mud flaps can rip off.

If the mud flap gets pinched between the tire and the ground or the tire and another object, it’s going to come off. Plain and simple.

Even worse, a driver may not even be aware of the loss. Now the driver is also at risk for getting ticketed, because each state has its own legal requirement for all trailers to have mud flaps on the rear axles.

What Happens After You Damage the Mud Flap Hanger?

The repair could be as simple as the driver punching some holes in the bottom of the flap, if he knows about it, and putting it back on with some zip ties.

That’s not a long-term solution. If you’re the maintenance manager...it’s your job to make sure it’s replaced. But why should your day be filled with mud flap repairs?

Now you’ve got welders who are cutting, repairing and even replacing the original equipment. Or maybe it’s a timely, complex installation process made mandatory by either the trailer or Bogie manufacturers.

Why is TMF-RS the solution?

Our innovative trailer mud flap retention system features innovative spring steel mounting brackets, coupled with either our DirectFlex® mud flap hangers or our spring-loaded mud flap hangers.

It’s easy to install and virtually eliminates mud flap loss - it’s the ideal way to ensure safe and legal operation while on the road.

We have done our research. After talking with fleets across the country and surveying different labor rates and times, we’ve found there are many different solutions, but nothing like TMF-RS.

How Will TMF-RS Benefit Your Fleet?
It’s simple.

  • Stop CSA violations aka Mud Flap Missing (392.2WC)
  • Set your technicians and drivers up for success – only common hand tools are required to replace the mud flap and system components/hanger if it fails
  • Reduce mud flap expenses

The BettsHD DirectFlex® mud flap hangers have been a proven, durable product on tractor and dolly applications for more than a decade. Transferring the mud flap retention reliability to trailer applications required a thoughtful amount of engineering from our team. The DirectFlex® is so strong and retains the mud flap so securely that transferring the typical amount of torque experienced with mud flap pinch conditions on a truck frame, into a slider box, would cause catastrophic damage.

Our solution is the TMF-RS: a bolt-on, spring steel, mounting bracket that delivers flexibility while assuming the role of “system failure point” which protects the slider box frame from damage, offering ease of repair if/when required and keeping the mud flaps on your trailer its number one priority.

Can you afford NOT to try it? If your trailer fleet has ever had a problem with mud flap loss, this is the solution.

“Let me start by saying I have been using BettsHD mud flap hangers on tractors for years, so when I was first presented with TMF-RS I was intrigued. We are always looking for safety products that help to reduce our road calls. Following a short product testing video and an introduction to the components in the system I knew that I had to give it a try. True to the claims, TMF-RS, with its specially designed mounting bracket, has our fleet of trailers looking top notch and in compliance. Gone are the days of bent angle iron or missing mud flaps, BettsHD and TMF-RS will be a mainstay here at Charlie's Produce.”
